I know what you are already saying. Golds is not the hardcore gym that it started out to be. In a
way, that is true. When Golds was created it set forth a standard of Bodybuilding that would be
followed for years. But like everything in life Golds had to adapt to the environment around it.
Golds progressed as did the idea of what "being healthy and being Fit" is today. The best
description that I can relay to you is Gold's Gym of Columbia, SC.
I remember when Gold's was a small, 1 location workout center here in Columbia. It changed
hands a few times then landed in the hands of its present owner in the mid 1990's, John Burriss.
Since that time I have watched Golds grow from 1 location to the 5 current MEGA GYMS
surrounding Columbia. What once was free weights and a few machines has transformed into the
some of the most upscale Fitness Clubs in the US.
This was accomplished by some of the best training in sales and marketing in the fitness
industry. I had the privilege to work for John Burriss Jr in my younger years and I accredit that to
my success in the fitness industry. Yes a great club with new equipment helps in selling
memberships but the staff, marketing and amenities is where most clubs drop the ball, not John.
John meets with staff, not just managers, at all clubs on a weekly basis and goes over the
previous week/month, the current week and future weeks. All in all, he has the best business
structure in the Industry.
At these amazing clubs you will find tanning, indoor basketball courts, racquetball courts, hair
salons, day spas, physical therapy, personal training and more classes than you could possibly
attend in a month. Kids care is absolutely amazing. Two areas for the younger and older children
to spend time. Indoor pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms as well as dry saunas.
Basically what I'm saying is you have to see the clubs to understand how well operated and
organized they are. If you are a Gym owner and are looking to improve your clubs looks,
attendance and revenue, contact John Burriss Jr and schedule a trip to visit his clubs. It will be
well worth your time.
